Over 100 years ago, thirteen
young Cleveland women met to form a local organization that would become one of
the earliest pioneers of a new concept called community health nursing. In
1902, the Visiting Nurse Association of Cleveland was born.
Since that time, the VNA has become the most comprehensive non-profit community
health organization in the state of Ohio and nationally acclaimed for
quality and innovation.
In the late 90s, the VNA had grown to provide skilled health-directed nursing
services and hospice/end-of-life services to more than 12,000 families each
year in nine counties in Northeast Ohio. To help assure quality and
efficiency, we became organized into three distinct entities—VNA of Cleveland
(Home Health), VNA Care Plus (Private Duty Nursing) and Hospice &
Palliative Care Partners of Ohio (End-of-Life Care).
In 1999, our Board of Trustees
voted to expand the service area and extend our mission to serve 12 counties in
Central Ohio. VNA of Mid-Ohio was born. And to better reflect our reach into
Mid-Ohio, the name of our holding company officially became Visiting Nurse
Association Healthcare Partners of Ohio (VNAHPO).
Today, in 2005, we have broadened our services to now include VNA HouseCalls, an
additional entity of VNAHPO. VNA HouseCalls brings primary medical care into
the homes of Northeast and Central Ohio community members that would otherwise
be without primary medical care.
While the range of our services has expanded and the size of our organization
has grown by many folds, we have remained strong and independent holding
steadfast to our mission—providing innovative, high-quality healthcare to all
people regardless of ability to pay.
